Professor Robert G. Devenyi MD, MBA, FRCSC, FACS
Dr Robert Devenyi graduated summa cum laude from the University of Toronto School of Medicine. He completed his ophthalmology training at the University of Toronto and then did further training in vitreoretinal surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
Dr Devenyi specialises in all aspects of medical and surgical retinal disease, as well as combined cataract and retinal surgery. He is the first surgeon in the world to have performed combined femtolaser-phacoemulsification cataract surgery together with vitrectomy surgery. He is the first surgeon in Canada, and the second in North America, to have implanted the Argus II artificial retinal plant into a patient with severe retinitis pigmentosa. His research interests include the development of the world's first bioengineered permanent vitreous substitute, the development of a picosecond infrared laser for cataract and vitrectomy surgery and the surgical implantation of “bionic” retinal prosthesis for patients who are completely blind secondary to genetic and inherited retinal disease.

Professor Pablo Artal
Pablo Artal is Professor of Optics at the University of Murcia, Spain. Dr. Artal's research interests are centred on the optics of eye and the retina and the development of optical and electronic imaging techniques to be applied in Vision, Ophthalmology and Biomedicine. He has pioneered highly innovative and significant advances in the methods for studying the optics of the eye and has contributed substantially to our understanding of the factors that limit human visual resolution. In addition, several of his results and ideas in the area of ophthalmic instrumentation over the last years have been introduced in instruments and devices currently in use in clinical Ophthalmology.
He has published more than 200 reviewed papers that received more than 7800 citations (H-index: 46), presented more than 200 invited talks in international meetings and around 150 seminars in research institutions around the world. He was elected fellow member of the Optical Society of America (OSA) in 1999, fellow of the Association for research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) in 2009 and 2013 (gold class), fellow of the European Optical Society (EOS) in 2014 and fellow of the SPIE in 2016.
In 2013, he received the prestigious award “Edwin H. Land Medal” for his scientific contributions to the advancement of diagnostic and correction alternatives in visual optics. This award was established by the Optical Society of America (OSA) and the Society for Imaging Science and Technology (IS&T) to honour Edwin H. Land. This medal recognizes pioneering work empowered by scientific research to create inventions, technologies, and products. In 2014, he was awarded with an Advanced Research grant of the European Research Council. In 2015, he received the “King Jaime I” award in new technologies (applied research). He is a co-inventor of 25 international patents in the field of Optics and Ophthalmology. Dr. Artal is the co-founder of three spin-off companies developing his concepts and ideas. He is the editor of the two-volume “Handbook of Visual Optics”, published in 2017.
Professor Dr. Dr. med. Fritz H. Hengerer
Fritz Hengerer is a Professor of Ophthalmology and Deputy Medical Director at the prestigious University Eye Clinic Heidelberg in Germany. With over 50 peer-reviewed publications to his name, Prof Hengerer has a wide range of research interests encompassing surgical retina and optics that have made his work essential to the successful introduction of innovative technologies throughout the ophthalmology sector. Both he and his team have been involved in ground-breaking studies on the light-adjustable lens for cataract surgery (recently approved by the FDA), the role of femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery and now the eyemax mono intraocular lens for macular degeneration. LEH Pharma are extremely grateful to Prof Hengerer and his team for contributing to our aim of bringing better quality vision to patients with macular degeneration.
Dr Alain Saad
Dr Alain Saad is an attending physician in the Anterior Segment and Refractive Surgery Department at the Rothschild Foundation, Paris, France and an Assistant Professor in the Cornea and Refractive Surgery Division of the Department of Ophthalmology, American University of Beirut Medical Center, Beirut, Lebanon. Dr Saad specialises in corneal disease, refractive and cataract surgery, as well as keratoconus diagnosis and management. He is a member of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) and the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO).
Dr Saad has authored several publications on the topic of keratoconus, including an artificial intelligence algorithm aimed to detect early keratoconus. He was nominated and ranked #10 in “The Ophthalmologist’s Top 40 under 40”. His clinical and research interests include the surgical treatment of corneal endothelial disease and all aspects of keratoconus diagnosis, pathogenesis, and treatment. He was the 2014 recipient of the Achievement Award of the AAO.
Dr Scott Robbie
Scott is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in London specialising in corneal transplantation, cataract and lens implant surgery. He holds a PhD in Genetics from University College London.Scott has collaborated with GlaxoSmithKline on novel therapeutics and worked on the ﬁrst gene therapy trial in the UKMBA from ESCP Europe. He holds a lectureship at the National Institute for Health Research Clinical Lectureship and his work has featured in over 30 peer-reviewed publications.
Dr Bobby Qureshi
Bobby is a world-renowned eye surgeon, the most experienced laser cataract surgeon in the UK and arguably the most experienced AMD lens surgeon in the world.
He has been at the forefront of introducing innovative new lenses and surgery to the UK for the last decade and was the ﬁrst surgeon in the UK to perform many ground-breaking procedures including the Light Adjustable Lens procedure, the Synchrony accommodating lens implant, the Sensimed eye chip for glaucoma and Femtosecond Laser Cataract Surgery.
Bobby won the Greatest Innovation in Eye Surgery award in 2014, and was featured as a key future entrepreneur in the industry by the international peer reviewed journal The Ophthalmologist in 2016.
